Advanced Chemical Etching

Advanced chemical etching is a highly effective, non-contact method for implementing engineering changes on metal parts. This process enables rapid modifications and, in many cases, removes the need for costly and time-consuming hard tooling, Needing to fit engineered metal parts together to create a precision fit, we can remove steel by removing minimal steel to create the perfect fit.

Before the Advanced Chemical Etching Process

Part ‘B’ could not fit onto part ‘A’. Part ‘B’ had to go through the chemical etching process to take a few microns off of the steel to enable it to fit onto part “A”.

After the Advanced Chemical Etching Process

Part ‘B’ fitted part ‘A’ like a glove. This process was handled with ease and took a fraction of the time. Our advanced process makes almost all impossible engineering jobs, possible.

Key Benefits for Engineering Changes

Cost-Effective Revisions:

Because it is a “tool-less” process using chemicals, we only require specific measurements in order to mark the parts.

Turnaround:

Parts can be delivered in as little as 24-48 hours.

Burr- and Stress-Free:

The process uses chemistry, not force, leaving edges free of burrs and distortion, which is critical for precision components.

No Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ):

Unlike laser or plasma cutting, acid etching does not alter the physical or chemical properties of the material.

Considerations

• Material Thickness: Ideal for thicknesses ranging from 0.005mm to 2.5mm.
• Undercut: As the acid cuts downward, it also cuts slightly into the sides (undercut), which must be considered in the design, especially for thicker metals.
